Meeting Reminder and BBQ Info.

Dear Emerald Society Members

I hope your 4th of July was good and that everyone is well.

This is just a reminder to everyone that our next meeting is on July 15th, 2009 at the Police Academy at 7 pm at the upstairs lounge. Hope to see everyone there.

Also, this month we have our 2nd annual BBQ at the Academy also. The date of the event is July 25th, 2009 at 9 am to 6 pm. Everyone is welcome to come and bring friends, family, and guest.

The society will be providing the burgers and hotdogs and we only ask that you bring a side dish or dessert.

THE POOL WILL BE OPEN FOR SWIMMING. BUT THERE WILL BE NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE YOU KIDS ALONE WHILE SWIMMING.

Hope to see you at the meeting or at the BBQ. There's fun to be had by all.

Free Tickets & Park Passes for the Irish Fair

Dear Emerald Society Members

There are free tickets available for the Irish Fair on June 20th and June 21st. (The fair is at the Irivine Meadows in Irivine. www.irishfair.org )The band members will get their tickets and passes from Scott Walton. He will have them available for you. Volunteers who are going to work at the booth at the fair (non-band members). I will mail the tickets and passes to you tomorrow or during the week.

If anyone else is interested in working the booth please email me so that I can get the tickets and parking passes to you.

June Meeting

Our next meeting is this Wednesday, June 10th, at the Los Angeles Police Academy Lounge at 1900 Hrs. President Steve Saletros will not be able to attend this meeting as he is still in New York on his yearly family visit. Vice President JJ Leonard will conduct the meeting and we are sure that a great time will be had by all with good cheer and Emerald fellowship.

Costa Mesa Scottish Festival

Emeralds Arise!

Volunteers are needed for this weekend 5/23-5/24 at the Costa Mesa Scottish Festival.
Last year was our first year to participate by having an Emerald Society Beer booth and we are looking forward to repeating our successful showing last year. The weather will be great and the United Scottish Society has really put out the welcome mat for us...so please, if you have some free time and would like to have a great time helping your Society by pouring some cold ones contact Vice President JJ Leonard at 818 992-1414 for further details and coordination! The Emerald Society Pipes and Drums will be there and it will be a great time for all!

May Meeting Cancellation

Fellow Emeralds,

The May meeting, which was to take place on May 6th, of the Los Angeles Police Emerald Society has been cancelled. Your Board unanimously agreed and voted to cancel this meeting due to our schedule conflicts caused by the many observances of Police Memorial Day which are taking place throughout the month. Many of you are taking part in Police Memorial ceremonies at the local, state, and national level. I encourage all Emerald Society members to remember the fallen and their familes and friends they left behind in their words, actions, and prayers!

Our Los Angles Police Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Band will be representing us at the California State Police Memorial Ceremony proudly and with honor!

I, along with Pipe Major Scott Walton, and Brother Mike Apodaca will be representing our Society in Washington, D.C.! If any other members are planning to attend the National Ceremony please let me know so we can share the experience as fellow Emeralds.

While May 15th is Police Memorial Day and we will be participating in special memorial events, let everyone know that our fallen and those they left behind are always remembered and never forgotten every day of the year!
